Big Eyes + Total Heels
BIG EYES (Seattle, USA)
Taking inspiration from a wide variety of bands ranging from 70's rock and roll staples like Kiss and Blue Oyster Cult, 70's and 80's power pop classics like The Nerves, The Shivvers and The Undertones, and 90's pop punk bands like Scared of Chaka and Mr. T Experience, the trio continue to develop their signature style - tastefully embracing the more glamorous aspects of rock and roll without compromising the attitude and grit.
TOTAL HEELS (Copenhagen, DK)
Not since The Thermals' More Parts per Million has a demo generated this much attention from so little. Three Danes and one American arrive fully formed, sounding like the Stooges fronted by Jarvis Cocker doing his best Bob Pollard -- and yeah, even a little Hutch Harris. Formed last year, old friends Jason (The Yellow Press, Polite Sleeper) and Jacob (LACK, Rising) came together around a batch of songs that needed words. Barely a rehearsal before their first show with Mudhoney and barely enough time to find an organ to cover the low end. But the songs kept coming in nods to Tyvek, Eddy Current, Royal Headache, any number of Goner or In the Red touchstones with half a clue. But something felt different. There were real words under that fuzz.
Lyrically dense, musically familiar, these songs sweat and stare and prod with more wry observation than most. It's back alley soul when singing about beer at 30-years old just isn't enough. So whatever inspired those demos found a kinship along the way and TOTAL HEELS is proud to announce its first European tour in support of two new singles available next month. Along with the duo's debut LP (due next year) is a collection proudly written and sung for those lovers and rockers, expats and punks worldwide.
